Thinking About Joining a Gym in Hong Kong?
Considering joining a gym in Sai Ying Pun or looking for a strength training gym in Hong Kong? Here's what you need to know before your first session at URSUS and questions people most frequently ask before they join.
Thinking about joining URSUS?
Choosing a new gym can feel like a big decision, especially if you're new to strength training, haven't trained for a while or simply aren't sure what to expect from a boutique gym.
At URSUS Fitness, we take a slightly different approach to training.
We're a boutique strength training and functional fitness gym built around coaching, progressive training and community. Our sessions are designed to help you become stronger and fitter while learning how to train in a way that you can actually sustain.
We’ve compiled a list of the most commonly asked questions to help you decide if we’re the right fit for you and to help you learn more about what to expect from a boutique gym experience.
Do I need to be fit before I join URSUS?
Absolutely not.
You don't need to be strong, fit or experienced before you start.
Our coaches can scale movements, weights and intensity to suit different abilities, so whether you're completely new to strength training or already training regularly, we can meet you where you are.
You don't need to get fit before joining a gym. That's what training is for.
I've never lifted weights before. Is URSUS suitable for beginners?
Yes.
Strength training can seem intimidating when you're new to it, but you don't need to walk through the door already knowing how to squat, deadlift or use a barbell.
Our coaches teach you the fundamentals, help you understand the movements and make sure you're working at an appropriate level.
We're interested in helping you learn how to train, rather than simply giving you a workout and leaving you to figure it out.
What actually happens in a URSUS class?
Our classes are coach led, small group sessions, rather than an open gym where you're expected to follow a program by yourself.
Depending on the class, your session might include:
A warm up and movement preparation
Strength or skill work
Coach led instruction
Conditioning or functional fitness
Accessory work
Modifications and scaling where appropriate
Our coaches are there throughout the session to help with technique, answer questions and make sure you're getting the most from your training.
You don't need to know what you're doing before you arrive. That's our job.
Are the workouts different every time?
There's variety, but we don't believe in random workouts.
Our programming is structured so that you can build on what you've done previously and develop your strength and fitness over time.
You might not perform exactly the same session every week, but there is a reason behind what you're doing.
Different doesn't have to mean random.
Is URSUS really intense all the time?
No. And we don't think it should be.
Training hard has its place, but getting stronger and fitter isn't about destroying yourself every time you walk into the gym.
Good training also includes:
strength → technique → movement quality → conditioning → recovery → consistency
We're interested in helping you train for the long term, not just survive your next workout.
How do I know if URSUS is the right gym for me?
If you're looking for a boutique gym in Hong Kong where you can get expert coaching, train in a supportive environment and build strength and fitness progressively, we'd love you to come and experience URSUS for yourself.
We're based in Sai Ying Pun, making us convenient for members from Sai Ying Pun, Kennedy Town, Sheung Wan and the wider Central & Western District.
And if you're not sure which class or membership is right for you, just ask. We'll help you work it out.
